Whether you use the new year as motivation to set new goals and make important changes, or you stay open to change at any time of the year, you’re going to need lasting resolve to see it through. After all, there’s really no point in making resolutions without the resolute determination to see them realized, right? Do you know what builds your lasting resolve? It’s different for each of us. Let’s talk more about building and keeping your rock-solid resolve.
Your resolve is a custom build.
In a previous post, we offered some important things to know about resolve. Perhaps one of the most important is what it takes to build your personal brand of resolve in rock-solid fashion. There are some fundamental “building blocks” that strengthen resolve in each of us. In general terms, these fundamentals may appear to be similar among us. But when you begin to look more closely, you’ll find that an understanding of your God-given inner design (or InnerKinetics®) is the most important building block of all. If you haven’t already, discover your InnerKinetics now. You can’t build lasting resolve without it.
Lasting resolve requires these elements in its foundation.
As mentioned, a knowledge of your inner design is the first essential brick in building lasting resolve. In fact, it’s your inner design that actually reveals how you go about acquiring all the other elements you’ll need. You’ll also need these:
- Strong, Positive Motives
- Clear Focus
- Healthy Habits.
I’ll focus the rest of this post on strong, resolve-building, positive motives. For each of us, the strength of our resolve is in direct relationship to the strength and nature of our motivations. If positive, helpful emotions fuel your motivations, your resolve will be durable and lasting. Likewise, negative, damaging emotions will suck the life out of resolve quickly. Can you think of examples in the last year where your motivations were positive and grounded in a sense of your purpose? Didn’t you feel steadier as you navigated challenges to reaching your goals? It doesn’t necessarily make things any easier to accomplish. But it sure can be the difference between getting across the finish line or coming up short! Positive motivations to think, feel and act according to who you really are will always take you further and last longer. I call those “Real You” motives.
Consider some of U.S. history’s greatest resolutions. The pilgrims’ journey to North America and their determination to build a new life and a new nation from the ground up comes to mind. Or what about the immigrant settlers and pioneers that headed west to face one life-threatening danger after another? Can you even imagine the United States coming into existence without the intense, purpose-driven motivations of our forefathers and mothers? These people had to connect to who they were created to become and what they were created to accomplish. Today, our lives are no different. We may not have literal unconquered wilderness in front of us, but we certainly have equally daunting and treacherous ground to cover.
“REAL YOU” SP MOTIVES
If you read about the amazing SPs in our lives, one of the first things you’ll learn is that making a positive impact on the world around them is the purpose behind their design. When their motives are aligned with this major SP goal, their optimistic, firm resolve will sustain them until their goals are accomplished. Their innate drives to be bold, spontaneous, and courageous represent even more motivation and resolve. If you’re an SP, you can learn more about building rock-solid SP resolve at the resources page from the team at InnerKinetics.

“REAL YOU” NF MOTIVES
Lasting resolve for an NF is fueled by their powerful emotions and altruistic motives. They truly want everyone to reach their potential and will always be motivated by goals and resolutions that better life for themselves and others. If their motives are built on the hope-filled future they naturally seek, their resolve will stay solid. After all, hope and love are two of the most positive of all motivations. Conversely, negative emotions like anger, hurt, or hopelessness will dissolve determination and resolve in a matter of seconds. Regardless of whether you are the NF or someone you are close to is an NF, learn all you can about what builds lasting resolve for the NF at any of the resources I’ve previously listed.
