Now Is a Great Time to Ask That Magic Question

That Magic Question

On just about any topic that matters, our world is unstable right now. But that doesn’t mean you have to feel or act that way. In fact, is it really any different now, than it’s been during important inflection points in human history? Viruses have always been around. Political instability has always been around. Wars are always brewing somewhere. The battle between good and evil is as old as time itself. Is there truly anything new under the sun? Regardless of the times we’re living through, trouble peeks around the corner, daring you to lose your peace of mind. Now’s a great time to ask that Magic Question!

What Is that Magic Question?

What’s the very best thing for me to do right now?

It’s been about two years since we mentioned that Magic Question. It seems like a great time to bring it back into focus.  WHY?  Because look at how much has changed in just two short years! So many of us are trying to make sense of things, but we can’t.  Many just want to get back to “normal” and are being told we’re not going to get back to that long-gone place.  Others are trying to regain their bearings and just make the best of whatever life is offering right now. And some of us really want to fly up and solve this massive puzzle that puts into question almost everything we’ve thought was true about our world. Almost no one is truly comfortable with the way things are.

Q: So, what value does asking this Magic Question really provide?

A:  It gives you something positive and productive to DO.

Don’t Worry. Do.

Maybe there’s nothing truly magical about asking, “What’s the very best thing for me to DO right now?” But think about it from Matthew’s perspective:

“Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” ~ Matthew 6:34

Asking that Magic Question and then acting on the answer accomplishes at least three things:

  1. When you have something better to do, it keeps you out of that harmful territory called WORRY.
  2. When you’re doing the very best thing, it requires you to use inner strengths that give you a sense of fulfillment when you use them.
  3. And even better, asking this magic question brings your emotions back into control. To determine what’s best to do, you have to be thinking about it. It pauses your emotions just long enough for reason to catch up.

It’s pretty much the answer to the age-old question your parents would ask you when you were causing trouble: “Don’t you have anything better to do?!”

Instead of wasting time worrying, do the very best thing you can do to solve the situation you’re in. If you’re experiencing negative outcomes or causing yourself or others real damage because you’re acting on the wrong emotions, stop and ask yourself what’s best to do? Use the inner strengths you were intentionally designed to use and find a better way of responding to the crazy circumstances we find ourselves in. Maybe it’s magical or just plain practical, but either way, it’s the best way to figure out what to do right now.
