There’s no doubt that the many forms of uncertainty we’re experiencing can take a toll on even the calmest problem solvers. But NT’s are built to handle it like a boss! Learn the “NT ease” of managing the causes of your stress.

Achieving Success with Your Stress

If you have an “N” and a “T” among your letters, read the description provided of the Real You NT. As natural-born leaders and efficient strategists, NTs are born with the strong drive to succeed and a fairly high tolerance for stress. For the NT, life is about discoveries that wait for no one. Discovery presents its opportunity and we either take it or lose it. So, NTs drive independently toward their goals with unwavering determination. But circumstances and/or people often stand in opposition to their preferred ways. What then? Stopping progress or changing their focus presents a major challenge.

  • If your thoughts are confused and illogical…
  • If you’re choosing emotional outbursts rather than calm dialogue…
  • Or if you feel aimless and unmotivated…

These thoughts and feelings aren’t your normal mode of operation. It’s time to set better goals and manage your stress successfully. Follow these efficient and logical steps to reclaim your calm: 

  1. STEP 1: KNOW YOUR NT STRENGTHS.
    Know your NT strengths so well that you can readily recognize when you’re NOT using them. Consider the ways your design-driven strengths have contributed to your success. And importantly, consider the negative results due to their non-use. Here’s a quick look at your NT strengths.
  2. STEP 2: RE-CLAIM YOUR CALM, LOGICAL MIND
    Manage your stress before it destroys your calm, logical mindset. These two strengths (calm and logical) are so integral to an NT’s design that it’s a reliable place to start —  whether you feel stressed or not. So, if you’ve lost your calm, re-claim it. According to your inner design, re-charge your inner energies until logic and calm are back in the driver’s seat.  If you’re an introverted NT, get alone with your thoughts. Do something that restores your focus and creativity. If you’re an extroverted NT, get among those who inspire your goals or do something outside to unplug for a few moments.
  3. STEP 3:  SET GOALS EARLY AND OFTEN.
    Here’s an important reminder: Stress must be handled not eliminated. Negative stress is BAD, but positive stress can achieve important results. For the NT, nothing puts negative stress in its proper place faster than some solid strategy and laser focus. So, evaluate your goals. Do you have a goal for each major area of your life? Are they achievable goals? Do they need adjustment, given the changing circumstances? Shift focus using your fierce NT independence and creativity. You’ll soon find you have no more energy to feed negative stress.

Here’s more about solving stress in each of the NT types:

  • ENTP: Like all NTs, an ENTP stresses when they fail or can’t seem to make their mark. They think up great ideas. But when they find it hard to follow through on implementing them, it’s a great idea that remains unrealized. ENTPs can beat negative stress by summoning the patience and focus they need to see their great ideas to a conclusion.
  • ENTJ: An ENTJ gets stressed when they can’t figure out why people aren’t following their plans. But victory results when they can actively listen and understand the emotions of others. When an ENTJ’s leadership (either in the office or at home) includes appreciating people’s feelings as just another contingency, emotions are no longer viewed as an obstacle to progress.
  • INTP: To be successful, every person needs help at times. But INTPs are so fiercely independent, they find it hard to ask for help when they need it. So, an INTP’s stress will build if they let a matter sit with no solution. Self-sufficiency is a worthy strength, but it’s not an absolute need. To lower their stress and find solutions, INTPs must learn how to express their needs and openly communicate with those who can help.
  • INTJ: An INTJ stresses over their inability to control all the options and make what they perceive as a logical, needed idea come to light. And similar to ENTJs, the control of people can be one of their largest sources of frustration. If some plan that benefits others is stymied by illogical considerations, it’s legit stressful! But since the objections of people are mostly emotional concerns, an INTJ can tackle these obstacles with a focus on understanding the emotions and needs involved and, when possible, accommodating those needs.
